How to read it

Each dot is one registered charity. Charities with a single purpose sit in the outer clusters. Charities that list two or more purposes sit in the middle, pulled toward each purpose they list, so a dot between Religion and Relief of poverty lists both. Hover or tap a dot to see the charity's own statement of its objects.

What this does not show

Purposes are chosen by each charity when it registers, from the list in section 3 of the Charities Act 2009. Hospitals, care homes and housing bodies run by religious orders often register under health or community welfare, so a count of "advancement of religion" is a floor for church-linked charities, not a ceiling. It also says nothing about land or assets.
